OUR HISTORY

The First Congregational Church of Council Grove was organized January 11, 1863. It was known as the Congregation Church Society.

Mr. R.M. Wright had established in his home the first Sunday School in Council Grove shortly after he and his family arrived in the spring of 1860 and the church was organized to fulfill the desires of several in the community.

Services were first held in the Little Brown Jug School and later in Huffaker Hall when the school house proved too small for the growing church.

The first church was built in 1872 one block north of where the present church is located. The current church was built in 1898 on the corner of Main Street and N. Belfry.

One of the church's main features are the stained glass windows in the sanctuary and the fellowship hall.
